Orange Hulk or MSH-Performance Hulk (MSH性能 ハルク, MSH-Seinō Haruku) is a secret character in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes. He's a palette swap of Hulk with his stats taken from Marvel Super Heroes: he has no super armor and a better defense than regular Hulk. Also the meteor he uses in the Gamma Crush Hyper has no fire, unlike regular Hulk's.

Although "created" especially for Marvel vs. Capcom, Orange Hulk later appeared in 2011's Uncanny X-Force #12.

Story[]

When confronted as a CPU opponent during Arcade Mode, Orange Hulk is introduced by Onslaught before the battle begins. In the Japanese version, Onslaught refers to him as his "servant" and orders him to destroy everything and to bring desperation equally to all of humanity. In the English version, he shouts at the player to "witness the might of Onslaught unleashed!".

These lines of dialogue imply Orange Hulk is a clone of the real Hulk created by Onslaught's psychic powers.

Japanese version further proves this with Orange Hulk often calling Onslaught a god of destruction that he serves. Telling his opponents to submit to his will and calling their efforts a "futile struggle".[1]

However, much like Onslaught's other clone servants Red Venom and Gold War Machine, he starts to question his actions and eventually confronts Onslaught himself if the player chooses. Telling him he must stop him, in spite of him being his creator.[1]

He can also express regret to the person he's partnered with, asking them to kill him for putting innocent lives at danger.[1]

Orange Hulk's ending, just like those of the other Marvel secret characters in the game, is him simply doing his character select animation in front of the Hyper Combo background while the text "Congratulations! You've defeated the game with a secret character!" appears underneath him.

How to unlock[]

To access him, highlight Chun-Li at the character selection screen. Press Right (2), Down (2), Left (2), Right (2), Down (2), Left (2), Up (4), Down (2), Right (2), Up (2), Down (4), Up (4), Left, Up. Orange Hulk's portrait will appear above Ryu's.

For the PlayStation version, complete the game with Hulk and then at the character select screen, highlight Ryu and press up.

To fight Orange Hulk, you need to meet these requirements before stage 7. Perform 3 Hyper Combo finish, Crossover Combination finish or Duo Team Attack finish of any combination and don't lose your partner.

Trivia[]

  • Similarly to Red Venom and Gold War Machine, it's possible that Orange Hulk thinks as the real Hulk rather than a clone. He refers to himself as such in the Japanese win quotes...yet still accepting Onslaught as his master.
    • It's perhaps for this reason that he eventually questions and challenges Onslaught.
    • He will also express regret to his partner character, asking them to kill him for putting innocent lives at danger. Likely because of the real Hulk's personality coming through.
  • More recently a solar-powered alternate universe Orange Hulk has appeared in the comics.
