Marvel VS Super Sentai is a (proof-of-concept for) fan-made crossover fighting game based on Marvel Comics (specifically the Marvel Cinematic Universe) and Toei Company's long-running Super Sentai TV series (including some characters and elements of its American adaptation Power Rangers). Like many similar fan-made fighting games, it is supposed to run on the M.U.G.E.N. engine[1] with a similar graphic style to Marvel VS Capcom 1 and Marvel Superheroes VS Street Fighter, making it a spiritual successor to the Marvel VS Capcom series.
Gameplay[]
The game plays fairly identical to its spiritual predecessors, using such mechanics as hyper gauges, character switching and duo/trio attacks. There is now an option for 1-on-1, 2-on-2, or 3-on-3 matches across all modes. Beating Arcade mode with two or three characters on your chosen team will unlock the same number of corresponding endings, regardless of who deals the final blow to the last boss.
In arcade mode, either Lord Drakkon or Iron Majin will be the final boss, depending on what characters the player has chosen:
- One Marvel character in 1-on-1 mode, or two in 2-on-2 or 3-on-3 mode = Lord Drakkon
- If a core Zyuranger is on your team with either of the latter two conditions met, upon defeating Drakkon, Daizyujin will show up and banish him to his dimension before the character endings play out. If Dragon Ranger/Ryuu Ranger/Kiba Ranger is present, Dragon Caesar/DairenOh/Won Tiger will do it instead.
- One Super Sentai character in 1-on-1 mode, or two in 2-on-2 or 3-on-3 mode = Iron Majin
Despite having an entire soundtrack of CPS2-style remakes of various music pieces throughout the Marvel movies' and Super Sentai series' long history, the game will also have CD-quality voiceovers and the option hear the music in their original "CD-quality" format.

Story []
"One of Earth's greatest heroes is dead, and the other has taken over the world. Our last hope lies with a young man who still believes in what it truly means to be a hero." - Opening Narration.
The story takes place in an alternate timeline of Earth-199999, following a scenario where Iron Man kills Thanos on Titan during the events of Avengers: Infinity War, but then takes the Infinity Stones for himself. Five years later, Earth is ruled with an iron fist by the evil Iron Majin, and a young Japanese-American man named Shin Seigi becomes the next Captain America to oppose him and the ruthless Stark Administration. But rebuilding the Avengers will not be enough to save the Earth from it's greatest hero turned into the universe's greatest foe; Shin must embark with Spider Man, Ironheart Rescue, Groot, and Shuri to the Toei Tokuverse(with Black Widow joining up later), where they must earn the trust of the Super Sentai (GoRenger - Zyuohger) and rally them to their cause of justice. The anime also involves heroes from Kamen Rider and Metal Heroes as “filler[2] characters”, unlike the game.
A 50-episode web-anime called Marvel VS Toei Tokuverse[3], is also being planned on in lieu of an in-game story campaign,
- beginning with a three-episode prologue depicting how Shin becomes New Captain America and forms the Shin Avengers; (A live-action movie adaptation of this arc is also being considered).
- then the next 41 planned episodes will follow an A/B plot model with a "monster-of-the-week" for each side;
- one side focuses on Shin's team's exploits in the Tokuverse, meeting up with one Sentai team per episode, in reverse order from Zyuohger to GoRenger, and helping them destroy whatever animated Iron Man suit serves as the "monster of the week". Black Widow will later join as a Sixth Ranger analogue from the Jetman tribute episode onwards, and sometimes a Kamen Rider or Metal Hero will also appear to help the Shin Avengers. The animation style will be akin to a high-quality traditional 90s anime like Cowboy Bebop, with little CGI limited mainly to battles involving giants or Zords.
- the other side focuses on Thor leading his own team in fighting Lord Drakkon and Iron Majin's alliance back on Earth-199999, with a returning Sentai villain and/or evil mecha as their "monster of the week". The active roster fighting those enemies will rotate in between episodes, sometimes due to members dying, including a GotG member. The animation style will be the same as “What If…”
- and finally a six-episode endgame with all the heroes together as an army for the decisive final battle.
However, only a rough skeleton of the story has been completed as of yet, which may be read for free on DeviantArt[4]. The "airdates" shown for each episode are based more or less on the in-universe timeline.

Trivia[]
- Marvel VS Super Sentai can also qualify as an installment/spinoff of the "What If... " animated series released on Disney +.
- The announcer of the game and narrator of the anime will be Richard Epcar, who not only voiced a handful of Saban Era Power Rangers monsters, but also Raiden in the more recent Mortal Kombat titles.
- GokaiWhite hopes to include pre-battle dialogues in versus mode, like those in Mortal Kombat X and MK11.[13]
- All the Super Sentai characters, playable and unplayable, will be voiced through archived recordings from their respective shows, mirroring the convention of Capcom characters speaking only Japanese in MVC 1 and 2.
- The only exceptions are Go Metal(notably because he originated as an American exclusive ranger), Lord Drakkon, and Time Fire(the new version), who will have newly recorded dialogue for the game.
- There will be no post-Zyuohger elements(rangers, villains, or mecha, etc.) appearing in the game or anime, due primarily to Go-Busters being initially skipped over for localization, and now ToQger, Zyuohger, Kyuranger, and Lupinranger VS Patoranger being skipped over in favor of Ryusoulger. But they still may be considered for later filler scenes of Marvel vs Toei Tokuverse.
- Aspects of the story are borrowed, or make nods to Injustice: Gods Among Us. The decision to have the anime and game compliment one another is also influenced by the Injustice game having its backstory told through a comic series.
- T'Challa (Black Panther) was originally planned to be on New Captain America's team, but was killed off and replaced by Shuri, due to his actor's untimely death(which was on "Power Rangers Day" of 2020).
- But T'Challa may still have an active role if GokaiWhite decides to write a comic adaptation under the name "Marvel VS Power Rangers", which he's also considering.
